Crews Prep for Philmont at Watchu Mountain Adventures Weekend

On Saturday morning, May 1, 309 Scouts, Venturers and advisors bound for Philmont this summer assembled at Camp Wheeler, Mount Allamuchy Scout Reservation, to participate in Patriots’ Path Council’s annual Watchu Mountain Adventures.

This is considered the “midterm exam” for all crews in the Watchu program to evaluate their readiness in team work, skills and fitness for their 12-day trek at the “Pinnacle of Scouting,” Philmont, in June and July of this year.

The enthusiasm among the 28 crews and 30 staff members was fantastic, and it was clear each and every one was looking forward to the weekend’s program. It was also not lost on us that, with more than 300 people in attendance, this is one of the biggest events hosted by our council this year. Due to the pandemic, the program was altered to adhere to the safety guidelines and policies of the state and local authorities. However, this did not impact the quality of the program. Crews were issued Philmont trail meals for the weekend, and the program covered instruction in backpacking, camping skills, hiking and trek planning.

Patriots’ Path wishes to thank the Watchu staff, who along with the council staff, made this year’s Watchu Mountain Adventures a success.
