Family Camping Training Weekend

We have an exciting opportunity for adults to camp individually with our family camping opportunity at Winnebago Scout Reservation and either receive training for Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills or BALOO.  Check in morning of October 17 and depart October 18th.

Any questions, please contact Andrew Joiner at [email protected].

This one-and-a-half day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for leaders interested in adding a camping component to their Pack activities. BALOO training consists of an online pre-requisite component in addition to an overnight (Family Camping Style) individual hands-on practical. BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught in a social distancing setting along with the discovery of the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience. Completion of this course is mandatory for a MINIMUM OF ONE adult on a Pack overnighter.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills

This course is required to be considered a position trained scoutmaster or assistant scoutmaster.

What will I learn?

  • The outdoor skills a Scout must learn in order to reach First Class rank; including first aid, building fires, cooking, rope-whipping, tying and lashing, using a compass and map, working with woods tools, identifying plants and animals and lots of other skills.
  • How to function using the patrol method.
  • How to teach these skills to both youth and adults.
