Explorer Posts Visit Staten Island Coast Guard Base

On Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, Explorers from Post 805, Montville Township Police Department;  Post 140, Morris County Sheriff’s Department; and Post 234, Hopatcong Police Department, made the journey to the Coast Guard New York Station headquarters in Rosebank, Staten Island, along the Narrows.  It was a perfect beautiful warm sunny early fall day, which added to the experience.

Explorers were given a tour of the Coast Guard New York station, which is responsible for the safety of all water vessels in and around New York Harbor, and much of the Jersey Shore coast.

Explorers learned a great deal about the duties of Coast Guard officers and the responsibilities assigned to them, including search and rescue duties.

Highlights included boarding some of the patrol boats and a pyrotechnic demonstration.
