Sussex Scouts BSA Camporee

The Sussex District Spring Scouts BSA camporee was held at the Sterling Hill Mining Museum on the weekend of April 12-14.  A total of 175 Scouts and adult leaders from 12 troops registered for the event.  Activities included tours of the interior of zinc mine, the external structures used to process the ore and the mineral  and mining museums on site.  Participants also were treated to a campfire in the quarry with the back wall lit up to show off the florescent minerals.  Other than a VERY wet Friday night everything went as planned.  Special thanks to Jeff Winkler who chaired the event along with Dave DiPietro and the rest of the Sussex District Activities Committee.  The event was a financial success, all the numbers are not in, but it appears that we will earn a profit of approximately $500.00 on this event.  The facilities use and tours were donated by the Sterling Hill Mining Museum Foundation.
