Raritan Valley District Holds Fall Boy Scout Camporee

The Raritan Valley District Fall Boy Scout Camporee took place over the weekend of September 28, 29 and 30 at Fort Hancock in the Gateway National Recreation Area at Sandy Hook, NJ. Fort Hancock is a former United States Army fort. The coastal artillery base defended the Atlantic coast and the entrance to New York Harbor, up thru World War I.

More than 150 Scouts were afforded the opportunity to participate in a wide range of activities including orienteering, a compass course, fishing, bike riding, Frisbee and beach volleyball. The Scouts were also able to communicate via shortwave radio with operators as far away as England, Italy and France.

Special thanks go to the South Plainfield Amateur Radio Club, Chris Struben, camporee chairman and all the volunteers who helped make this such a memorable event.
