Monthly Archives: October 2018

Boy Scouts of America, Patriots’ Path Council announced that on Sunday, October 14th, it will host a presentation by Dan Stringham, who earlier this year completed a 5-week expedition to reach the summit of Mt. Everest in Nepal. The peak of Mt. Everest is 29,035 feet above sea level; no other mountain on earth has a higher altitude.

Last May – after several months of training and conditioning – Dan Stringham and three companions survived one of the most dangerous and physically demanding challenges known to mankind: reaching the summit of Mt. Everest, where approximately 300 people have perished in pursuit of that goal. Dan Stringham, who serves as a member of the executive board of Patriots’ Path Council, is Vice President and Corporate Counsel at Prudential Financial. Dan, his father and two sons are all Eagle Scouts.

In this special presentation, which will feature photographs from his expedition, Dan will share:
o What motivated him to undertake this challenge
o The extensive preparations required to make this climb safely
o The physical and mental challenges he faced
o The climb’s “36-hour day” that’s necessary to reach the summit
o What it feels like to touch the top of the world
o The important life lessons he’s learned from the experience
Dan’s presentation will be followed by a Q&A and light refreshments. There is no charge for this one-time event. The general public is invited to attend, but advance registration is required. Attendance is limited, so please reserve seats as soon as possible, by registering online at .

This event is scheduled for 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 14th, and will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 283 James Street, Morristown, NJ 07960. Proper attire, appropriate for a church setting, is requested.

Fall Cub Scout Recruitment Challenge

Recruit a friend into your pack and enter into a drawing to receive a free week at day camp or a set of camping equipment from the Scout Shop.

Just when you thought you could wrap up recruiting for the fall, there’s one more way you can gain more youth for your pack or troop. Think about attaching a “Join Cub Scout” card on each piece of candy you hand out on Halloween. Or attach the joining card to the candy you hand out at the local trunk or treat.

Click the PDFs on our membership resources website for an editable template.  You can print the cards as is or edit them with your specific pack or troop information.

You can find them at the council website, here. Or the direct link to the PDF, here.

You may also place an order for your cards by emailing your membership executive, Javier Juarez or Al Thomas.  You must submit your order at least one week in advance.

Be sure to share with all your parents and leaders. This is a really fun way of letting people know about your local Scouting program. Candy is not included.
