Saturday February 3, 2018 was cold and sunny as more than 100 Webelos and 300 Boy Scouts traveled to the Watchung Reservation for their annual Klondike Derby. Klondike governor Dave Robbins from Troop 154 along with a dedicated staff of volunteers set up various stations to test Scouts and Webelos in rope skills, sled races, and fire building with just a 9-volt battery and steel wool. There was a “mystery station, compass skill town and a first aid town as well. Among the most popular stops of the day was lunch town in the Scout camping area and a soup and hot chocolate station by the headquarters manned by Tom Mitchell from Troop 83, Somerville.
