Welcome Back Ian Craig!

Returning for his 8th summer organizing the SAC Trek Program, Ian Craig is very excited for the 2018 season! He has been involved with BSA summer trekking programs in the Adirondacks for 10+ years and the BSA National Camping School Trek Leader (Voyageur) program as a staff member for 11 years. An Eagle Scout originally from Western NY, he has been registered with the same troop for 26 years! He is proud to call the Adirondacks home and loves to find new waterways and trails to explore whenever he can. Finding a new corner of the Adirondacks to send SAC treks is a true passion for him. One of his most memorable moments in Scouting came just this past summer when his six year old son begged for the chance to stay overnight at Sabattis Adventure Camp and paddle on Bear Pond with the Voyageurs. Providing proof that SAC and the people who staff, attend, and support the camp are leaving outstanding impressions on visitors of any age!

On November 4, 2017, our council advancement committee will run our Merit Badge Intro Workshop & Den Chief Training at Brooklawn Middle School in Parsippany.

Among new badges covered this year will be Medicine, Exploration, Law, and Backpacking.

The purpose of the workshop is to introduce badges to the Scouts and to help them understand the merit badge process.  For most of the merit badges, Scouts will be able to obtain a “partial” but will not be able to complete the merit badge at this event.

Registration and class catalog are here.

Jamboree on the Air – October 20-22, 2017

Jamboree on the Air is an annual Scouting event that uses amateur radio to link Scouts around the world, across the country and in your own community. There are no official hours, so you have the whole weekend to make JOTA contacts. The event officially starts Friday evening during the JOTA Jump Start and runs through Sunday evening.
Who: Scouts and Venturers of any age, plus their families.
How: Once at the ham radio station, the communication typically requires speaking into a microphone and listening on the station speakers. However, many forms of specialized communication can also take place, such as video communication, digital communication using typed words on the computer screen transmitted by radio, communication through a satellite relay or an earth-based relay (called a repeater), and many others.

In person group  – If you would like to participate in a group experience on October 21 go to the Watchung Reservation Loop area, look for Pack 47 Cubmaster Gretchen Kellaway.
