Catholic Committee on Scouting

Greetings Leaders in Scouting!

The following are some upcoming opportunities for you, your leaders and your Scouts being sponsored by the Catholic Committee on Scouting in the Archdiocese of Newark!

Scout Sunday Ceremony

The annual celebration of Boy Scouts and the awarding of medals and emblems this year will be held at 3 pm on Sunday February 12th at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart.  Last year the Archdiocese of Newark was tied for the 10th in the country with the number of medals that were awarded!   We hope you and Scouts might consider doing the religious emblems this year!   You can learn more about them on our website at  www.newarkoym.com/scouting-awards

The Order of St. George Award

This award was created by the Archdiocese of Newark’s Catholic Committee on Scouting for adults and also Scouts.  It can be earned each year!  It’s a great opportunity for those Scouts in between that might have already completed the Cub awards but are not old enough to do the Boy Scout awards.   The Catholic Committee on Scouting has REVISED THE CRITERIA for this award so that in can be completed within a 3-4 month time span – if not sooner!    We are putting the final touches on the revisions and will pass along when it is completed.   Our hope would be that many of you might consider having your Scouts take the “The Quest” and complete the Order of St. George Award.

If you could maybe help us out by forwarding this information to any fellow Scout leaders that you think might benefit from the information, or might be interested we would greatly appreciate it!   I look forward to hopefully seeing you and your Scouts at some of these events in the near future!

Thank you again for all you do day after day for the youth of our Archdiocese, and for all you will continue to do in shaping the future of our young church.
