Advanced Training + Philmont = NAYLE

Boy Scouts and Venturers can be assured of a place at Philmont next summer, or at Summit Bechtel Reserve or Northern Tier. No waiting, no uncertainty, IF they’ve completed NYLT training, by attending one of the National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience courses held each summer at these great high adventure bases. The NAYLE program is Scouting’s highest level of advanced youth leadership training. At NAYLE, Scouts will use concepts acquired at their NYLT training during a challenging, hands-on experience at Philmont’s newest training facility, Rayado Ridge Leadership Camp, or equally impressive facilities at Summit and Northern Tier. Working with Scouts from around the nation, they will learn to work together on activities ranging from hiking, geocaching, challenge course, wilderness first aid and more. Youth leaders will come home with servant leadership skills and practices as an integral part of their leading style. But don’t wait, courses may fill up fast! For more information, visit https://www.facebook.com/BSANAYLE.

After Wood Badge, What’s Next?

If you’ve taken Wood Badge course, then you can be assured of a place at Philmont next fall – no waiting, no uncertainty – by attending Philmont Leadership Challenge. The PLC program is Scouting’s top level advanced leadership training for adults. Just as NYLT for youth parallels the adult Wood Badge training, so NAYLE (National Advanced Youth Leadership Experience) and PLC are very similar. At PLC, Scouters will use their Wood Badge training during a mentally challenging, hands-on experience at Philmont’s newest training facility, Rayado Ridge Leadership Camp. Working with Scouters from around the nation you will learn to work together on activities ranging from hiking, geocaching, challenge course, wilderness first aid and more. You will come home with servant leadership skills and practices as an integral part of your leadership style. Don’t delay, the course could be full. STEM University is a program for high-school age Boy Scouts and Venutrers from all across our council area to participate in a day of STEM related activities on the Kean University Campus in Union, NJ on December 12, 2015.

STEM University will provide a variety of workshops, lectures and hands on activities focusing on physics, mathematics, astronomy, robotics and engineering, working with faculty at Kean’s STEM Building; New Jersey’s Center for Science, Technology & Mathematics, and Kean’s Planetarium.

Scouts who attend will work on requirements for the Shoot!  Nova Award.  Additionally, participants will have rare access to the various Kean University STEM facilities including the Kean Planetarium and “the cave” — a 3-D virtual environment that allows participants to experience scientific research in a whole new way.

Scouts, guided by dedicated professionals, will see how science, math and physics make projectiles shoot into space, how we impact nature and explore the wonders of space. Scouts will receive a NOVA Awards Guidebook which features Scouting program activities incorporating STEM learning with cool Scouting activities and throughout the day, Scouts will work on a STEM patch.

Scout family members are invited to stay for tours around Kean University which includes a trip to the campus Barnes and Noble store.  Attendance is limited to the first 50 Scouts from all over our council who register ($25) for this day of learning and discovery.
