H2 Fuel Cell Competition, Hosted by the STEM Committee

The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Model Car Challenge (H2 Challenge) is a free “hands-on” STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) program offered by TransOptions to educate students about the existence of alternative fuels.  For the first time, Patriots’ Path Council, BSA is partnering with TransOptions to allow teams of Scouts to participate.

The challenge requires students to design, build and race alternative energy model cars. In the process, teams must produce, store and transfer the hydrogen their model cars will use. They are also required to submit a documentation portfolio, which presents the team’s concepts, designs and comments. Video from the H2 Challenge can be viewed in our video library.

Register and attend a 2-hour information session, demonstration, and sign up at the council service center, 1 Saddle Rd., Cedar Knolls, on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 7:00 PM.  Teams can be 2-4 Scouts who are in 9th-12th grade and reside in Bergen, Essex, Hunterdon, Morris, Somerset, Sussex, Union or Warren counties.

All participants will spend the first part of the program learning, designing, building and testing their model cars.  The H2 Challenge race is held in December. Tentative date of December 10, 2014 from 8 am to 1 pm. Location TBD.
