Awards Abound from the STEM Committee

In the month of June, the STEM committee in Patriots’ Path Council handed out its 6th Super Nova Medal to a Cub Scout from Pack 49 at the Tradeshow of Scouting and two Distinguished Citizen Awards at the Inaugural Project STEM Dinner. The Super Nova Medal is a nationally supported award given to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers who have completed the requirements stated in the STEM Nova and Super Nova manuals. Patriots’ Path Council is anxiously awaiting the first Boy Scout and Venturer to earn the award. It could be you!

On June 3, 2014, Joel Bloom, President of New Jersey Institute of Technology, and Brian Maclean, Vice-President of Elizabethtown Gas Company, received the Distinguished Citizen Award for their service to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The lifetime work of both men has inspired growth in every field of STEM.

If you want to learn more about STEM Nova and Super Nova programs, or want to know what you or your company can do to support STEM in Patriots’ Path Council, contact David Smith at

Laser Tag and Paint Ball Policies

It is a policy of the Boy Scouts of America that laser tag and paint ball as usually construed are prohibited for Scouts of all ages.

The prohibition can be found in the Safe Guide to Scouting listed under Unauthorized Activities.

However, there can be participation in these activities if targets are used instead of people and the targets may not be in the shape or form of people or animals.

Violation will void your insurance protection and may jeopardize your leadership status in the Boy Scouts of America.

The latest version of the Guide to Safe Scouting can be found at:
