Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (Cub Scout BALOO)

This one day course is designed as an introduction to the Cub Scout outdoor program for those leaders who are interested in adding a camping component to their pack activities. BALOO is an instructor-led course which is conducted at the district level.  BSA’s Cub Scout level camping policies will be taught along with the necessary tools to help units carry out a successful camping experience.

Completion of this course is mandatory for at least one adult on a pack overnighter.  Please note that more than one pack leader should take this training to avoid last minute changes if only one leader is BALOO trained.

Den Chief Training

Registration for spring and summer Den Chief Training is now open.

A Boy Scout who serves as a den chief not only helps Cub Scouts have fun as he provides a valuable resource for den leaders, those working toward the ranks of Star, Life, or Eagle can also meet the position of responsibility requirement for their next rank.

Furthermore, with trained den chiefs, Boy Scouts are one of the best helpers around for Wolf, Bear, Webelos, and Arrow of Light den leaders, as they help with activities, advancement, ceremonies, crafts, and other den events. More information about den chiefs, along with class registration links, are available on the Den Chief Training page (http://training.ppbsa.org/youth/denchief/).

Finally, den leaders should take a look at http://training.ppbsa.org/youth/denchief/WorkingWithADenChief.ppt to see for yourselves how a den chief can help you deliver the Cub Scout program.
